Knowmads EP's

The Knowmads, one of my personal underground Hip-Hop favorites. This is the music you listen too when you wake up on a Saturday morning, you look out of the window and it's raining, but the sun is shining. It's the music you listen too on summer nights, when it's starting to cool off and the sun is slowly going down. When you just sit outside, looking over the place you live, smoking a cigarette or a big fat blunt, whatever you prefer.. and over think your life. It's music to live by.

The Knowmads exist of a two or three (Tom Wilson, Tom Pepe and Jesse Judd, who also sometimes produces the beats) Hip-Hop Heads from Seattle. Who are in the same scene as the Blue Scholars, Jake One, Macklemore and Common Market. (Expect them to be on the blog soon!) They are notable for their great lyricism, about topics that are pretty much unheard for in hiphop. Not too much politics, but mostly.. just life. Not the ho's, bitches and fame. Just true and honest Hiphop!

They have a few albums out and a couple of free Ep's that are for free and I will post here. There will be a link to their website with their webstore on it for their albums, if you like their EP's. I highly recommend their albums, I personally think they're way better than the EP's!

Gorgoroth - Black Mass Krakow (Full show)

For the readers who might know me and are wondering where the heavy metal is.. here it is! This is a show from 2004 by a very famous band in the Black Metal world that most people who are into the music and culture have already seen. And why? (For the ones who haven't seen this yet) Because this concert by a band called Gorgoroth might be the most controversial concert to be ever recorded since the year 2000. This is the concert that got this band banned from Poland (where they recorded this DVD) for ever. This show captures the band Gorgoroth at its prime, before recording their last album with this legendary line-up (Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam). More about the lawsuit around this band and the reason for the break up of this legendary line-up can be found anywhere if you understand how to use Google. ( :D )

If this decision by the Polish government was the right one is up to you, I am not here to discuss any politics. But once you see it, you might understand why.. Also.. you might (just like me) start questioning the limits of the freedom of expression..

I might be late with this, but I found out a Youtube user by the name of Vorkus02 (Thank you!) uploaded this concert in it's full length not too long ago. Which I thank him for. I have seen this entire set multiple times, since I am a big fan of this band and their work.

Immortal Technique - The Martyr

The Martyr by Immortal Technique, is IT's fourth album that he released in October 2011 while his fans eagerly wait for his long awaited upcoming album "The Middle Passage". This album came quite unexpected and was a real gift from Immortal Technique to his listeners. They suddenly had 15 new songs to listen to, after a long time of waiting.

Besides the fact that this album came quite unexpected, the true gift was that it was released for free on the internet. With only one objective.. "To burn this for every motherfucker you know!". With the release of this album he most definitely put commercially released albums to shame. It shows that this artist stands behind his art and his message. And that his message should be 'reachable' for everyone, everywhere. This is most definitely your coolest history/political/social science teacher you can ever get!

It happens very rarely that an artist of this caliber puts out a tape with this many quality songs, for free. He returns as usual, hard, raw and takes no prisoners. After you've listened this record I can ensure you, either you learned something new that you want to further read in to. Heard about a great arsenal of artists that are featured on the tracks throughout the album. And.. that you are an Immortal Technique fan!

If you are a hiphophead or just an occasional listen.. I strongly recommend you take some of your and listen to this record carefully! (Download link below!)

[ROTW] The White Buffalo

It's time for the 'Recommendation of the Week!' [ROTW]  where we pick out one artist or band to dedicate an article to. It's music we've heard and are eager to share with the readers!

This week's recommendation is and I wish I could illustrate a drumroll... The White Buffalo!!

The White Buffalo is quite possibly a legend in the making. A throwback to the time of hard touring, hard drinking artists who really lived what they sang about. Everything about him is big, from his imposing physical size to his amazing vocal range. He’s as comfortable playing in a dive bar as he is in front of thousands in a European arena. Songs that go deep and touch the heart. The White Buffalo.. for me, already a legend!

I came across a few of his songs while watching the amazing show "The Sons of Anarchy" months ago. The Sons of Anarchy is besides an absolute pleasure to watch also a source of great music! In the show itself you will hear relatively unknown artists cover songs by legends like Bob Dylan, Neal Young, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Blind Willie Johnson, Alice Cooper and many more. But the one outstanding artist for me was The White Buffalo.

The White Buffalo (Real name Jake Smith) makes music that can be described high quality singer-songwriter material or as folk/country like, if we want to talk about genres of course.

Ever since I discovered him on the Sons of Anarchy I have been following his actions and he is slowly  upcoming to be an artist of the caliber of lets say.. Eddie Vedder! New video clips have been pouring on to the internet and videos live shows, that when you see it, you wish you where there.

Enough of my crap, time to let the music speak for itself! There will be links to his webstore below!

Syler (Plato) - Present

The first official post of Underground Rebellion Records with our first artist who reached out and asked to spread the word about his new LP.

Syler (Also known as Plato) an independent emcee from United Kingdom, known for his feature in the underground world of Hiphop with Lyrical Agent and Beast 1333, his participation to The Final Verse 2011 and some of his own tracks that wander around the internet waiting to be found by you! (Links below)

A few days ago he released his new LP 'Present', digital download for free from his bandcamp page and the physical copy for just 2 pounds! This can definitely be seen as a typical underground release. Lyrically on a high level, interesting flows and a tight production, simple but fresh beats.

The only aspect that bothers me is the duration of the LP, it's just 19 minutes. And an emcee like Syler in my opinion needs some more time to really show what he's got. The LP just feels a bit rushed, but never the less more than worth it if you're an hiphop enthusiast!

Highlights of the LP are the tracks: "777", "For You" and "A day".
