Sick Since is known in the underground circles for lyrics about astro-theology, esoteric politics and science, conspiratorial and spiritual subject matters, and new age philosophies. But this time went into another direction.
With Can't Fight The Feeling, he went back to the late 80's, early 90's west coast hip-hop influences in a modernized jacket. Which in my opinion couldn't be a better move in these times of paranoia, stress, crisis and an unsure future. Sick went from informing and teaching his listeners about important topics that I mentioned above, to just making sure, the people who listen to him feel good. From informing and fear mongering at some point, he made an 180 degree turn into a direction that still has to be defined.
This album makes you can't fight the feeling of love, warmth and happiness. This is an album you put on when you wake up on a Saturday morning, with the sun in your face and all you have to do is relax. The lyricism again, is on a high level but there is not much that can really said about it. It simply fits the atmosphere of the music of the soulful 80´s time. If you want to know why I feel this way about it, straight up, buy the album!
The production of this album really contributes to that experience. There are a few producers on the album I personally never heard of, producers like Clipsmoke, E.Jones, Kidcratedigger and DJ Down Pat. Zambo Beatz and Yazztrumentals, by now can be seen as veterans from the Sick Since camp, they're also responsible for many great beats on the mixtapes before this album. It seems like they understood Sick Since his vision and went with the flow, which resulted in a surprisingly good result.
Most of the album is solely Sick Since and it has two features: D. Purplebliss, on the track '360 Convo' she has a lovely and interesting intro to the track, some kind of spoken word thing she does, its nice! And Trey Boog on M.P.R who approaches Hip-hop from a more typical 2012 angle, for the younger generations out there. It shows that a more mainstream angle to hip-hop and the old school underground can unite and release a dope track.
For the first official release of D. Purplebliss (Don't forget her! in all this, besides one feature I heard she contributed way more!) and Sick Since their label Blissince Records, it´s a release to be proud of. I want to compliment the two of them for their fine work promoting for this album and setting up their record label. Congratulations!
